Outdoor portraits are one of my favourite types of photography. It gives me the opportunity to blend both landscape and portrait skills into a single image.

 

Golden hour is my favourite time of day. The warm beautiful light at both sunrise and sunset can create outstanding results.

I sometimes like to also use a second lightsource, using the sun as a rim light for the golden highlights behind the subject with a fill light for the face.

That being said, different times of day can achieve different results. For a dramatic shot, the midday sun mixed with a powerful 600 watt strobe can produce powerful and contrasting results.
