I’ve recently become interested in supporting Linux for creatives, so I’ve been exploring Linux-friendly photo editing software that could serve as an alternative to Adobe Lightroom for RAW photography editing. In this video, I take a closer look at RapidRaw, a new open-source photo editor developed by a young Swedish developer that’s currently in active development.

RapidRaw is built on modern, cross-platform technologies and focuses on speed, efficiency, and non-destructive RAW editing. Its lightweight design and straightforward interface make it easy to navigate, while offering promising foundations in areas like color management and processing accuracy. Although still early in its development, it already shows potential as a Lightroom alternative for Linux users, even if there are some rough edges that need refinement.

In the video, I provide a comparison between RapidRaw and Adobe Lightroom, testing how it handles essential photo adjustments such as exposure, highlights and shadows, vibrance, and saturation. I also share my thoughts on whether it’s ready to be a practical replacement for professional photo editing, particularly for wedding photographers or those working with large RAW files.

The review was recorded using RapidRaw version 1.42, though a few updates have already been released since, showing ongoing progress and active development.
